Special Measles-Rubella (MR) Immunization Week & Follow-up Activities
Date: 4th – 9th November 2024
The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health is launching a special MR Immunization Week & Follow-up activity in 206 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas in twelve selected districts. These districts are Colombo (including Colombo Municipal Council), Gampaha, Kalutara (including NIHS), Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ampara, Batticaloa, and Jaffna and Kalmunai Health districts.
The primary target groups are females & males aged 20 to 30 years (born in 1994 to 2004). Individuals aged 15 to 19 who have missed their two routine doses of Measles Containing Vaccines will also be vaccinated. Children aged 9 months to 14 years who missed their routine dose(s) of a Measles-Containing Vaccine will also be targeted for vaccination.
The main activities of the special immunization week will comprise:
• House-to-house visits in high priority areas (4th, 5th & 6th November 2024 in high priority areas)
• Visits to occupational and higher educational settings in all areas in districts (7th & 8th November 2024)
• Immunization day (9th November 2024 followed by additional clinics on 4 consecutive Saturdays)
For eligible individuals & children according to their age, the Measles-Rubella or Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine can be administered on the given dates (9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th November and 7th December) at central clinics & field immunization clinics within 206 Medical Officer of Health areas in these twelve selected districts.
Target age group
• Primary target age group: Females & males aged 20-30 years (born between 1994 to 2004);
• Individuals aged 15-19 years also considered (who have missed routine doses of MCV);
• Those aged between 9 months – 14 years (who have missed routine vaccine doses of MCV);
